According to police affidavits and Law&Crime, suspects in a rented 2026 Camry equipped with emergency strobe lights ambushed Bethune around midnight on October 4, 2026, outside North Miami's Aliro luxury apartments. Wearing police shirts, the gunmen handcuffed Bethune, stole his keys, and invaded his third-floor unit. Inside, a resident opened fire with an AK-47, wounding an intruder and forcing three suspects to jump from a third-story window. The crew forced the handcuffed victim into the Camry, dropped their wounded accomplice at a hospital, and drove Bethune to southwest Miami-Dade, where he was fatally shot before the car was set on fire. Johnson and Fagan were booked on first-degree murder, kidnapping, and impersonating an officer.
