I get that he was way over the speed limit, but I also understand that he just wanted to be sure about signing the ticket and went about it in the wrong way by not cooperating with the officer and not being respectful. Maybe I’m too empathetic, but if the officer had let him make that call, he just wanted to trust what he was being told and not be tricked into admittance of guilt by signing. The punishment is too harsh for the crime, this time. I usually side with law enforcement, but I actually feel sorry for this guy, even if he was wrong. The officer maybe could have taken a few more moments after he exited his vehicle and signed the ticket and made it a teachable moment, while letting him be on his way to work. I feel like showing him grace could have made a lasting impact on his life and outcome. I could be wrong, but we are all human and giving someone another chance can really impact someone for the better. The consequences of this arrest are quite severe. I would have preferred he was shown some grace, but that’s just me.
