@news.trending7: Why Monica Dutton Was Written Out of “Marshals,” and What the Showrunner Says About Bringing Her Back Yellowstone fans are still feeling the absence of Kayce Dutton’s wife. In the Marshals season 1 premiere, viewers learn that Monica Dutton, played by Kelsey Asbille, has d*ed of cancer. Kayce, played by Luke Grimes, is grieving while raising their son, Tate, on his own. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Asbille was unavailable for the spinoff. That led creators Taylor Sheridan and Spencer Hudnut to decide how to move on from her character. Hudnut said the goal was to do it “in the least exploitive way.” He told TV Insider that reservations have a high rate of cancer because of toxins dumped on them. “We wanted to make her death about a bigger issue,” he said. Grimes said he was “incredibly bummed” at first. Asbille is one of his good friends. He said he “worked up the courage” to tell her. “In true Kelsey fashion, she handled it like a pro,” he said. Asbille has not publicly commented. Hudnut told PEOPLE he is “definitely open” to her return. He said it would have to be done carefully. He told TVLine there is an opportunity for a dream sequence, hallucination, or flashback. “I don’t want to guarantee anything, but it’s definitely not off the table,” he said. Would you want to see Monica come back, even in a flashback? #TV #Yellowstone #Monica #luke #show
