My Journey as an English Teacher in Vietnam🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳 My name is Abyssinia Ifeanyi, and I am an English teacher from Nigeria, currently living and teaching in Vietnam. Being an English teacher in Vietnam has been one of the most meaningful and rewarding experiences of my life. When I first came to Vietnam, my main goal was to teach English, but with time, I discovered that teaching is much more than standing in front of a classroom and explaining lessons. It is about connecting with students, understanding them, encouraging them, and becoming part of their learning journey. I genuinely love teaching my students. One of the greatest joys I get from teaching is seeing my students become more confident, participate actively in class, speak English without fear, and, most importantly, smile and enjoy themselves while learning. Whenever I see a student finally understand something they have struggled with, answer a question correctly, or confidently speak English in front of their classmates, I feel a deep sense of happiness and fulfilment. For me, my students are not just learners; they are young people with different personalities, dreams, abilities, and stories. Every class gives me an opportunity to teach them something new, but at the same time, I also learn something from them. Teaching has taught me patience, creativity, understanding, and the importance of creating a classroom where students feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them. Living and teaching in Vietnam has also given me the opportunity to experience and appreciate Vietnamese culture. I have come to admire the respect Vietnamese people have for teachers and education, the importance they place on family, their traditions, festivals, food, and the warmth and hospitality I have experienced from many Vietnamese people. These experiences have made my time in Vietnam more than just a teaching journey; they have also made it a journey of cultural exchange and personal growth. As a Nigerian teaching in Vietnam, I feel privileged to share my language, knowledge, and culture with Vietnamese students while also learning from their culture and way of life. I believe that education is not only about what happens inside the classroom; it is also about bringing people from different backgrounds together and learning to appreciate one another. Teaching English in Vietnam is not always easy, but it is incredibly rewarding. The smiles of my students, their progress, their curiosity, and the relationships we build make every challenging day worthwhile. Whenever I leave the classroom knowing that my students have learned something, enjoyed the lesson, or gained a little more confidence, I feel that my work has a real purpose. I am Abyssinia Ifeanyi, a Nigerian English teacher in Vietnam, and I am proud of the journey I am on. I hope to continue inspiring my students to learn, communicate confidently, dream bigger, and believe in themselves.
