The greatness of Real Madrid over Barcelona lies not in the fact that it always wins in head-to-head matches — here, in fact, there is an almost absolute parity. Real's greatness manifests itself in something else: in the ability to win when it matters most, and in possessing the trophy that Barcelona has been unable to catch up to for more than a decade. The main argument is the European stage. This is the basis of any comparison. Real has 15 European Cups/Champions Leagues, Barcelona has 5. The gap is threefold. Moreover, five of these titles Real won in the modern era, including three in a row from 2016 to 2018 and another in 2024. Barcelona, meanwhile, last won the Champions League in 2015 and since then has not gone beyond the semifinals. If we count all UEFA European club competitions, Real has 23 trophies versus 14 for the Catalans. This is not just an advantage — it is a difference in class on the continental stage. The overall trophy count also favors Real. According to La Liga data, the Madrid club has 105 titles, Barcelona has 104. The gap is minimal and has been shrinking in recent years: Barcelona dominates the Spanish championship in the 21st century, having won 29 La Ligas against Real's 36. However, it is important to clarify here: Real leads in the number of championship titles (36 vs. 29), while Barcelona leads in Copa del Rey titles (32 vs. 20). That is, in Spain Barcelona is indeed close to or superior to Real in certain indicators. But this only emphasizes the contrast: on the domestic stage the struggle is equal, while on the European stage Real's superiority is overwhelming. Head-to-head matches do not confirm greatness. Over the entire history of official matches (264 games), the win count is equal — 106 to 106 with 52 draws. In La Liga, Real is slightly ahead: 80 wins versus 77. In the last 30 El Clásicos, Barcelona even has a slight edge: 14 wins versus 13 for Real. This means that the thesis of "greatness over" cannot rely on the statistics of personal duels — they do not confirm this idea. Real's greatness is built on something else: on the ability to win finals and tournaments, not individual matches. The psychological aspect. Real is historically perceived as a club that "knows how to win in Europe" even in seasons when it is not the favorite. Barcelona, especially after the Guardiola era, is more often associated with dominance in certain periods and with style, but not with sustained hegemony in the Champions League. It is telling that over the last 12 years Real has won six "Orejonas," while Barcelona in the same period has won none. This is precisely that "greatness": not constant superiority, but the ability to materialize it at the most decisive moment. Thus, the correct formulation is this: Real is great over Barcelona not in head-to-head matches and not in the absolute number of all trophies, but in the European dimension and in the ability to win the biggest finals. That is where the gap is insurmountable and that is where the greatness of Madrid requires no qualifications.#putabarca #halamadrid #RealMadrid #mogged #football - @hhh1_470
