My dad was 47 when I was born. He did all the things the other dads did. Only difference was that he was way more mature. He had so much more life experience that informed his parenting and just general demeanor. He is one of the very few men that ever apologized to me as a child when they did something wrong (granted I came of age in the 90s and 2000s - maybe dads are different now). That’s a small example, but it says a lot about his emotional intelligence. At 60 years old, he had no problem sitting down and properly apologizing to an eighth grade kid when he had made a mistake. The only down side, is I had my first child at 39. Now he’s two, his grandfather is 87, and they have trouble bonding, which is surprising because they communicate at roughly the same level 😂.
