@darkafricastories: In 1311, a King of Mali gave up his throne to sail across the Atlantic. According to reports from Arab historian al-Umari, Mansa Abu Bakari II sent 200 ships, then 2,000 more with himself. Only one returned. According to this account, that ship reported seeing a river in the middle of the ocean. However, there is no widely accepted archaeological evidence that his fleet reached the Americas. The story remains disputed among historians. Did he make it? Africa Unerased. #AfricaUnerased #AbuBakari #MaliEmpire #africanhistory
