Stage 1 endometriosis does not mean stage 1 pain. Being told your endometriosis is “minimal” can feel incredibly confusing when your pain is anything but. The stage describes findings such as the extent of lesions and adhesions seen during surgery. It isn’t a pain score. Someone with stage 1 can experience severe pain. Someone with stage 4 may have much less. The number on your surgical report doesn’t tell us how much your symptoms affect your life. Why can there be such a difference? Pain involves more than the amount of visible disease. The location of lesions, inflammation, nerve involvement and pelvic floor muscle tension can all contribute. Over time, persistent pain can also make the nervous system more sensitive. Pain signals may become easier to trigger and harder to settle. That is a physical process. Your pain is real, and understanding these mechanisms can help guide a more complete approach to care. I’ve experienced this myself. The amount of pain I had never seemed to match what anyone could see. So if you’ve been told it’s “only stage 1” but you’re missing work, struggling with sex, losing sleep or planning your life around pain, those symptoms deserve attention. Your care needs to consider what you’re experiencing alongside the surgical findings. If you’d like individual support alongside your medical care, book with me, Mel, at Nourishing Apothecary. Start with a free discovery call, have a chat and go from there. Liverpool, Sydney and Australia wide via Zoom. www.nourishingapothecary.com #Endometriosis #EndometriosisPain #Stage1Endometriosis #PelvicPain #NourishingApothecary
