@guoguowa2: Long Beach, California is officially rolling out its new Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) System, a pilot program that’s changing how traffic safety is enforced across the city. Backed by California State Bill AB 645, Long Beach is one of only six cities in the state chosen to test this system, which uses speed safety cameras to ticket drivers automatically when they’re going 11 miles per hour or more over the limit in school zones and high-injury corridors. The goal, according to city officials, is to reduce speeding, collisions, and traffic fatalities under the Safe Streets Long Beach Plan. But many residents aren’t convinced. Critics argue this could be more about generating revenue than saving lives, raising concerns about privacy, fairness, and how these fines impact lower-income communities. While cameras could make streets safer, opponents say they could also lead to unfair penalties and increased rear-end crashes. Eighteen sites have already been identified based on crash data and proximity to schools, with public feedback open through November 7, 2025. Residents are encouraged to review the draft impact report and use policy online before it goes to the Long Beach City Council for final approval later this year. Do you think speed cameras will make Long Beach safer, or is this just another city cash grab disguised as safety? Long Beach has mismanaged and overspent foolishly, and now they want to gin up some extra revenue through camera traffic fines, instead of balancing the budget.
