@sobergothcowgirl: I recently started talking to someone who shared my love of country music. Naturally, I thought we’d have something wonderful to connect over. That’s where I went wrong. Instead, he informed me that since he’s older than I am, and has probably attended more concerts than I have, and proceeded to list the legendary artist he had seen. When I pushed back, his response was essentially “you have no clue.” And just like that, my interest disappeared. Here’s what some men aren’t understanding: I’m not looking to compete with you. I’m not impressed by how many concerts you’ve been to versus me. It is not a competition. I’m interested in who you are today and whether we can create something meaningful together hopefully in the future. My love of music runs deep and I simply wanted to know if we could enjoy the next concert together not here about your lifetime concert résumé and how cool you are and therefore you put your interest upon a pedestal for everyone to admire. I’m looking for connection not competition a partner not someone’s inflated ego to manage. Which by large is why I specifically don’t date musicians because I’ve never met one who couldn’t get out of his own way they parade their ego and their interests for all to admire and I’ve been through that for 25 years.
