Being a gas engineer I've had 3 or 4 call outs for this over the years. The last one was for a customer who was sadly on end of life care and bed bound in her living room. She was Malaysian and believed the pigeon was the spirit of her late husband coming to see her before she passed. She kept a feather from the bird and a few days later she died. I'm glad she had a nice thought like that before the end. Lovely lady she was.

I was a gas emergency engineer and I’ve done the tens of times behind fires. The trick is to open a window and the close the curtains leaving a little cap by the opening and when the bird is released it will fly straight for the light (most times)🙏

We cut a hole the same and I pulled many a jackdaw out at my old house. We put a grid over it for easy access in the end. Then they fell down the other chimney and there were 2 baby Jackdaws in that one
