@thebritspot: The BBC has reported seeing several cyclists continuing to bike along Oxford Street despite them being among those banned from the road. Apart from installing physical gates and bollards, authorities have also placed a team of security staff actively advising cyclists to dismount. However, the BBC reports that this has been met with mixed success. Tom Faynes, chief executive of the London Cycling Campaign, has now said that new cycle lane routes are needed both north and south of Oxford Street to provide an alternative to the pedestrianised area. "Thousands of cyclists come through here every day," he said. "We need some education and awareness for cyclists over what's changed, but we need routes north and south so we can get through."
