@fishlikemike: One of the most misunderstood animals in North America! Opossums have 50 teeth, more than any other native North American land mammal, including bears, wolves, and coyotes! They’re also the only marsupials native to the United States, carrying their babies in a pouch just like kangaroos. These fascinating animals have prehensile tails that help them climb, can involuntarily enter a defensive state known as “playing possum,” and are naturally resistant to the venom of many rattlesnakes! Rabies is also relatively uncommon in opossums due to their low body temp. Despite their intimidating appearance, they’re generally shy animals that play an important role in our ecosystems! I’m leaving shortly to explore some incredible places, search for amazing wildlife and hike through some of the most amazing places we have here on our planet…follow along to see all the wild things I run into very soon! 🌎
