If a person has achieved happiness while single, in order for them to consider romantic love, that love has to provide an opportunity for greater happiness. Entering into a romantic partnership that decreases their happiness isn't appealing. That's from the perspective that happiness is the goal main goal used to measure the viability of the relationship.
