I actually think that's really cool. To ensure blind people have a career their disability won't hinder in a field they'd be not only accepted but expected in. AND you don't have to worry about someone leering at you in a vulnerable state

This should not be allowed, creating artificial structural barriers only keeps the massage industry helping blind people in its infancy from a massive market which stops them from getting the best education. The better solution would be to remove laws that ban free association so blind people can create their own learning space.

I work with individuals who are blind/low vision and learning about this makes me wish we had something like this in my country. I wish there was something like this that could guarantee my patients a job.

Interestingly enough, visiting Taishan in Guangdong province, China - most of the massage parlors were also ran majrority ran by blind people. Curious if other regions of Asia lean into having blind people work in the massage industry too now

So living in Jilin province in northern China. there was definitely carryover around some of these ideas of blind massage. they have their own thing don't get me wrong. anyway, my time there one of the things that I did was literally studied with blind massage therapists learning their hand over hand techniques of massage therapy. It's such a completely different system and modality in the massage world where you actually feel what's going wrong with your hands and that's the main way that you do the diagnosis of what's going on physically with the body. after coming back to the US and having to jump through the hoops be a massage therapist, I noticed that 90% of the stuff that I do in therapeutic is informed by what I learned from the blind massage people. And I would suggest everyone to seek someone out if you have that opportunity because they truly find things that are very different than making judgments of what you might say or might think is wrong with you.

I wish there were jobs specifically for certain disabled people. I’d do anything to work at a library as an autistic person. But no it’s just a bunch of mean old ladies
