His family had come from Sanandaj (Sena), which is why he was given that nickname. ​Ahmed Shamal was not just a singer; he was the voice crying out from the depths of the poor. Due to poverty, he was unable to pursue an education and from a young age worked demanding jobs such as a porter, shepherd, and caravan driver to earn a living. ​In the 1950s, he began singing. His authentic voice led him to become a close friend of stars like Hassan Zirak, Mohammad Mamle, and Ali Mardan.
