@dailymail: The cost of caring for pets in America is soaring, leaving some owners struggling to afford essential veterinary treatment. Vet bills have risen sharply since 2017, while one in five pet owners is carrying at least $2,000 in pet-related debt, according to MetLife Pet Insurance. Animal welfare groups warn that rising costs are also forcing more people to give up their pets, with one Chicago shelter reporting a 28% increase in animals being surrendered so far this year. From medical bills to food, the growing expense of pet ownership is putting the bond between owners and their animals under increasing pressure. #animals #pets #usa #news #money
Now let's talk about private equity buying up small vet clinics and driving the costs up.

They take advantage of people’s feelings about pets but those vets truly couldn’t care less what happens to the animal bc they only see them as animals. They literally offer to put dogs down over things that aren’t worth killing them over bc the client can’t afford it. SMH

This is why I had to change my vet office to a different one. A new owner took ovr the office I went to for years and was charging double what the old owner was. I am not giving 80 dollars just to be seen! That’s just to be seen! No treatment!

No one is wrong in the comments. I worked vet med and vaccines are under 2 dollars but they charge 25-50 per vaccine not including the exam fee. Don’t get started on surgery fees and how everything gets charged

am i a conspiracy theorist when i say that the cost of pet ownership is to try and make it so less and less people can afford animals so poorer people can work more hours because they have less commitments

$2400 to remove a TOOTH is insane! We can’t get pets to save from shelters if we can’t afford it! Dropping a couple thousand every visit is insane! Spent 1k on our cat for NO answers.

This is why I choose a 100% independent family owned vet clinic for my 6 cats. They are the most kindest and understanding vets, giving me discounts when they can tell I need it. I’ve never had a bad experience or felt unsure under their care and the prices are very reasonable imo as someone who isn’t rich.

Whatever you do, don’t go to VCA. My grandmother should win a record for the most vet visits. Any minor inconvenience she takes her dog to the vet. He hasn’t been wanting to eat for over a month and a half+. She took him almost every week. Even paid for all the tests in the world. No one noticed a massive tumor and told my nana the dog was just “picky” he was “perfectly healthy” their brand new vet within 1 visit had to be the one to tell my nana her dog has 3 months to live if that. I will never forgive them for falling as veterinarians. The dog is all she has left of my grandpa and if someone would’ve just genuinely put in the effort they could’ve seen & removed the tumor before it got to this point.
