Lithium batteries are so dangerous! I lost my sister, brother, niece , nephew, sister in law and brother in law 3 years ago because of an electric bike catch on fire in the middle of the night and they were both charging in the living room ! They couldn’t get out.

I can’t live without my portable chargers. I just don’t leave them plugged in if I’m not home/awake and I keep them in a fireproof bag.

When it comes to lithium battery products, this is where buying well-known brands is the smart move, even if it’s more expensive. We use Anker products for most of our charging ports, surge protectors, and charging blocks. All of our power tools are Ryobi and we only use Ryobi batteries (and before elitists go off on Ryobi for being the “cheap” tools, they work for our needs and we’re okay with being Slytherin for power tools). We also only use the Ryobi charging station which has a shutoff for when it’s fully charged. Batteries that have been dropped (like off a ladder) are carefully monitored and disposed of if we suspect it’s been compromised. And we never leave batteries charging overnight or when we’re not home. Thermal runaway scares the crap out of me, but lithium batteries are what’s available to power so much of what we use every day.

Also make sure you get an apple brand charger like they always tell you. I got a nice quality off brand one and it fried the logic board on my phone and bricked it..

Definitely don’t throw away lithium batteries in the trash. It can catch fire in the garage truck, etc. Research where you can take lithium batteries to dispose of them.

there's a reason why we require any portable batteries to be visible at all times on flights

You can “throw away” your lithium batteries at the customer service desk at Lowe’s and Home Depot. They’ll safely dispose of them for you

We have a fire cabinet that stays in the garage to store our power stations for camping now. Our power station exploded and cause a catastrophic house fire. Thankfully the battery company is taking responsibility.

This is a little inaccurate, almost everything uses lithium ion, including your phones. The things he’s describing can actually more be explained by cheap electronics without proper voltage cutoffs in their vcc current end or bad charging equipment like bricks or cables. This isn’t on the end of the battery, usually.
