@dtndailytimes: Amnesty International Demands Probe Into Viral Izala Drill Video Over Alleged Threats Against Christians Amnesty International Nigeria has called for an immediate and independent investigation into a viral video allegedly showing children and teenagers participating in marching drills while chanting threats of violence against Christians in Enugu and Jos. In a statement, the organisation said the footage appeared to show minors taking part in drills led by adults wearing uniforms associated with Jama’atu Izalatu Bidi’a wa’iqamatus-Sunnah (JIBWIS), popularly known as Izala. The chants reportedly called for AK-47 rifles to attack Christians during Sunday worship. Amnesty International urged authorities to establish where and when the video was recorded, verify its contents and investigate the activities and teachings associated with the youth programmes. It also called for children involved to receive appropriate protection, psychological support and educational assistance. The organisation further urged authorities to hold accountable anyone found to be using children to promote religious hatred or violence, stressing that minors must be protected from violent indoctrination and activities that threaten their safety and development. However, the identities of those featured in the video, their actual affiliation with JIBWIS and whether the activity was authorised by the organisation’s leadership have not been independently confirmed.
