South Grand Prairie would have tried to cancel all of Shakespeare’s plays if they had been around then 🙄

As a theatre teacher in Texas, this school board should be ashamed of itself

My daughter goes to a middle school in the same area. She’s in theater and HAD a male role that she auditioned for. When this story came out I was worried it would affect her play/role. It absolutely did. My daughter went from playing a lead role (the dad) to them changing the role to an aunt because they didn’t want a LESBIAN relationship in the play. I guess they don’t know that that is NOT how that works.

In theater many women have played the role of Peter Pan, how is this any different?

not just Peter Pan. Mozart. Handel. casting women in male roles, men in female roles. has been done for centuries.

I played a male part at a Texas public school in the 90s and no one batted an eye. We've gone BACKWARDS.

This school board is a major disappointment. They don’t do anything that actually helps the students. Caring about this petty stuff is a waste of time.

Ashley Sage :
They didn’t mention that this same student at this same school has played a “traditionally male” cast part in the past and no one had an issue with it. I believe also after SB12 was already in effect.

We are in Keller ISD - and we have SEVERAL male roles played by females. This is OUTRAGEOUS.

They need to give free lunch to every child and staff. This is what we need to stand up to.

Aunt Bea :
I wholeheartedly agree with this. I understand that females have played these roles historically. But we don’t want boys in female sports. And in reverse we have to hold up to those rules in both directions

Harvard Says :
Acting means you play a part, whether it be a unicorn an inanimate object or a human being of any gender. Whoever is the best in that role is who should be cast.
