@jadelmourad: Why Jean Nouvel’s museum works, in 5 decisions. In a hot coastal climate, most buildings fight the sun with glass and machines. Louvre Abu Dhabi starts somewhere else: shade the whole site first, then let the light back in, slowly. - 01 A city in the sea, not a box: 55 low buildings, 23 of them galleries, laid out like the lanes of a medina. - 02 One roof for the whole city: a 180 m dome shades the plaza and the buildings beneath it. - 03 Filter the sun, don’t block it: 8 layers and 7,850 stars create the “rain of light”, inspired by palm leaves. - 04 Make 7,500 tonnes float: the dome rests on 4 hidden piers, 110 m apart. - 05 Cool it before you air-condition it: shade, stone floors and stone walls do the first work. Which decision would you borrow for a project in your city? Tell us in the comments. Save this for your next design review, and send it to the friend who designs in the heat. • Architect: Ateliers Jean Nouvel • Location: Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi · Opened 2017 • Facts: Louvre Abu Dhabi @Louvre Abu Dhabi • Visuals: AI-generated editorial illustrations by Thearchmagazine, not photographs of the building. #thearchmagazine #LouvreAbuDhabi #JeanNouvel #MuseumArchitecture #WhyItWorks

Snefrou :
Fun fact : it was built only to help trafficking all kind of antiquities, especially those from the middle east like Egypt and Irak during the Arab spring. There is a french documentary about it.
