@asad38899: Immunologists at the Francis Crick Institute in London, the National Cancer Institute, and Aalborg University in Denmark, led by Professor Caetano Reis e Sousa, have discovered a surprising link between Vitamin D, the gut microbiome, and the immune system’s ability to destroy cancer. Published in the journal Science, the team found that Vitamin D acts directly on epithelial cells lining the intestine, which in turn boosts the growth of a beneficial gut bacterium called Bacteroides fragilis. Having higher levels of this specific gut microbe dramatically trained and multiplied the body’s cytotoxic T-cells — resulting in stronger natural resistance to tumor growth and far better responses to cancer immunotherapy. When researchers analyzed medical records from 1.5 million people in Denmark, they confirmed that patients with higher Vitamin D levels had a lower risk of developing cancer and responded better to immune checkpoint treatments. #ScienceToday #UK #FrancisCrick #VitaminD #Microbiome
