A cruise ship collided with two container ships after reportedly being blown off course by gale-force winds. Passengers onboard the £360m Mein Schiff 3 were said to have scrambled back to their cabins after the luxury liner lost control and crashed into freight ships at a port in northern Germany on Sunday afternoon. Footage captured by passengers shows the 962ft-long vessel battling strong winds as it drifted through the container terminal in Bremerhaven aided by three tugboats. Wind gusts of up to 44 knots had been forecast at the time of the incident. The TUI-run liner scraped past one stationary cargo vessel before striking the hull of the MSC Victorine. Several of Mein Schiff 3’s lifeboats were crushed, while photos taken in the aftermath showed a 30ft gash in the side of one container vessel. The accident happened as the cruise ship was preparing to set sail for a 20-day voyage around the Canary Islands with 2,428 holidaymakers and 922 crew onboard. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the crash is not yet known.
