@valerielovesgrooming: Yesterday, one of our caretakers arrived at a community cat colony to find USED MOTOR OIL poured into every single feeding dish. The food and dishes had been contaminated, putting the cats who rely on those feeding stations at risk. After sharing what happened, so many of you recommended installing cameras to help protect the cats and their feeding stations. We appreciate everyone who has reached out with suggestions and shown concern for these vulnerable animals. We would love to have cameras to help monitor our colonies, but Merced SPCA is funded entirely by donations. Every dollar we receive goes toward the needs of the animals in our care, including food, emergency veterinary bills, rescue expenses, and foster supplies. We have to prioritize these ongoing needs while finding ways to improve the safety of the cats we care for. We’ve added a trail camera to our wishlist, along with other supplies that help us continue our work. Merced SPCA cares for more than 100 community cat colonies across Merced County. Our caretakers provide daily feeding and monitoring, coordinate TNVR (trap-neuter-vaccinate-return), and step in to rescue cats and kittens. These cats already face so many challenges living outdoors. They shouldn’t have to face deliberate harm, too. If you’d like to help us protect our community cats and support our rescue work, you can find our wishlist and other ways to help through our website https://www.mercedspca.org/donate Every contribution helps us continue showing up for the animals who depend on us.
