@ltjohnallenbradley: Canada has been building satellites and space technology for decades, yet we've never developed a reliable way to launch our own satellites into orbit from Canadian soil. That could finally change, and a small Newfoundland town is helping lead the effort. The federal government has signed a 10-year, $20 million agreement with Canadian aerospace company NordSpace, giving the military priority access to a dedicated launch pad at its developing Atlantic Spaceport Complex in St. Lawrence. NordSpace is pursuing something particularly ambitious: developing both Canadian-made rockets and the infrastructure needed to launch them. The agreement will allow Canada's Armed Forces to conduct launches, research and testing as the country works toward an independent space launch capability. It's an important national security issue. Satellites support military communications, Arctic surveillance, navigation and emergency response, making reliable access to orbit increasingly valuable. Canada has also signed a separate agreement with Maritime Launch Services in Nova Scotia, creating another potential domestic launch option. Of course, the Newfoundland facility is still being developed, and Canada has yet to establish routine orbital launches from its own territory. But the direction is encouraging. A country with Canada's aerospace talent should be working toward the ability to build, launch and operate more of its own space infrastructure. #canada #newfoundlandandlabrador #novascotia
