@docamen: Trauma isn’t always one major event. Sometimes, it’s years of growing up in an unpredictable or stressful environment. Chronic stress, childhood trauma, and growing up around addiction can affect the brain’s stress-response systems, influencing emotional regulation, attention, and relationships long into adulthood. But your past doesn’t have to determine your future. The brain has the ability to adapt and change, and with the right support, healing is possible. Are there any scientific studies examining the effects of maternal abuse and severe psychological trauma, such as the death of a loved one during pregnancy, on fetal development and the child's long-term health?

Dr. Melanie - Psychologist :
As a psychologist, I’d add that it’s worth noticing what “holding it together” costs you. Are you agreeing to things you don’t have capacity for, hiding that you’re struggling, or feeling guilty whenever you rest? You deserve support before you reach a breaking point. A small place to start is, “I’ve been carrying a lot, and I could use some help with this.” You don’t have to explain your entire history to ask for care. More on people-pleasing, burnout, and self-compassion on my page 🤍

I would be interested but also afraid of what you would see in my brain. I greatly appreciate your analogy because my brain is constantly overflowing with thoughts and memories of my childhood which was horrible.
