@db_atc: My reasoning for cupping + NMES on a chronic calf strain 🦵⚡ When a strain goes chronic, healing can stall. Here's how I approach it: 🔵 Cupping → increases local blood flow and may stimulate a mild inflammatory response ⚡ NMES → gets the calf activating again and improves stretch tolerance 💪 Progressive loading → isometrics, then eccentrics, then back to sport. This is what remodels the tissue. Why stretch tolerance matters: it means getting into a fuller range during loading with less guarding. The NMES research: 📄 NMES on the calf before static stretching increased stretch tolerance compared with rest (Saito et al., Exp Brain Res, 2026) 📄 Electrical stimulation after eccentric exercise helped hamstring stiffness and flexibility recover faster (Uehara et al., Eur J Appl Physiol, 2026) This is my clinical judgment, informed by the research. That's evidence-based practice: the best available evidence plus clinical expertise plus what the athlete needs. Both studies were in healthy adults, not chronic strains. Modalities set the stage, and loading does the work. Every plan is individualized based on patient need. I'm always curious how other providers approach this. ATs, PTs, DCs: what's in your chronic calf strain toolbox? Always looking to grow in my craft. 👇 Calf that won't cooperate? Drop a 🦵 #athletictrainer #ATC #sportsmedicine #SportsRehab #NMES
