The cost of living crisis and lack of rent controls is to our generation what the lack of no fault divorce was to our parents and grandparents. I’ve been saying this for ages. I myself stayed in an abusive relationship because the cost to rent our one bedroom flat alone was £1,100 with no bills included. Eventually when we broke up we stayed living together for a year because we were both too broke to live separately and he had destroyed my social circle so I had no support. It was a year of threats, violence, financial and sexual abuse, being woken up at all hours and constantly harassed and tormented whenever I was home. The government needs to step in.
