Teach the motion 1st and then start to add the word before the motion, giving the dog a few seconds the “hear” the word and then do the motion. So they can relate the word with the motion….otherwise they can’t do 2 things at once. They can’t sniff out a treat and listen at the same time

I am using the same tactic and so far so good. I am playing catch up and training a bit on the late side with a lot of things, but she got sit, potty training, and will sit next to me when she really wants to go and get attention from other dogs and people, and place. And she twirls on command and walks. So not bad for not training too regularly. We’re getting her sister in a couple weeks so really focusing on making sure we do a training session daily. Reinforcing good habits and focusing more on manners. Good job! He’s adorable!
