Before a word leaves your mouth, pause. Ask yourself: Is it true? Is it necessary? Could it hurt someone? Would I be comfortable standing before Allah with these words recorded among my deeds? A sentence can disappear from our memory within seconds, yet its effect may remain in someone’s heart for years. A kind word can comfort someone, repair a relationship, or encourage a person toward goodness. A careless word can do the opposite. The Prophet ﷺ warned about the seriousness of the tongue and taught that a person may say a word without realizing its consequences, while it brings them great harm. So practice self-censorship for the sake of Allah. Not every thought needs to become a sentence, and not every truth needs to be spoken without wisdom.
