#vietnam #u22vietnam #congan #cscd

On Mackinac Island, a natural arch rises 146 feet above Lake Huron, nearly fifteen stories tall, and spans about fifty feet. 🌉🌊 Arch Rock is made of limestone breccia, a type of rock that's rare in the Great Lakes region, and it formed over thousands of years, when high water levels after the last glaciation, a stage called the Nipissing, let waves and weather erode the softer rock below and leave the harder breccia standing as an arch. It's one of several breccia formations on the island, along with Sugar Loaf and Skull Cave, and for the Anishinaabe and Odawa it's a place of spiritual power, with Anishinaabe-Ojibwe tradition holding that the Great Creator blew the breath of life into the newly formed earth and created Arch Rock, and some legends describing it as a bridge to the afterlife. Its unusual beauty helped convince people to protect the island, which became a national park in 1875, the second in the country after Yellowstone, and twenty years later became Mackinac Island State Park, Michigan's first. Today you can see Arch Rock from an overlook, by bike or carriage along Arch Rock Road, or by stairs from the shore, though climbing on it is prohibited. It's a natural arch at the edge of Lake Huron, and a rare one in the Great Lakes. Have you ever looked through Arch Rock? #ArchRock #GreatLakesCoast #PureMichigan #MackinacIsland #MackinacIslandStatePark
