@the_borderline_lounge: Loving an avoidant can be very hard and very confusing at times if you don’t understand what exactly is going on. This is an analogy that I came up with to help me better understand what exactly might be going through my avoidant’s head as I was being put through the avoidant test, which helped to constantly assure me that what was happening was not my fault and reminded me to just be patient because healing is always at a different pace for everyone. ##avoidantattachmentstyle##avoidantattachmenthealing##avoidant##avoidantattachment##mentalhealthvideos

So what is the reaction they are looking for when they pull out of the water? They want you to be cool with it? Like it’s no big deal?

News flash, these tests go on indefinitely and you'll never pass them, meanwhile you are expected to always be 100% perfect and devoted to them while they always have some foot out the door just waiting for you to slip up

I really think if the avoidant/protectant is unwilling to try afterwards they have other mental illnesses overlapping with it OR if they are just determined to remain aloof, then they will. I think saying they're all the worst or all the best is what's unhealthy. I believe the reason for this video is simply to help us better understand that they're still human and hurt and ache like anyone else. Not perfect. Not evil. Just human. Boundaries are important either way and if you know someone is going to trigger you, it's ok to go no contact and love from afar.

from what I understand it's called avoidance because the core of this protection is "if I don't look at it, it doesn't exist, so I will ignore (avoid) it until I'm ready to face it, if ever". and so, avoiding budgeting so you won't have to know how badly you overspend, avoiding conversations hoping things just blow out if you ignore them long enough, avoiding your partner so you can pretend you're living a single life. and yeah, maybe the tests will end. the problem is you rarely know what is needed to pass the test, what did you do to fail it, and whether it's the last one or there's another one coming right around the corner. And it is hard to feel safe and accepted when you need to constantly prove to another person you're safe and accepting and you trust them, especially while they hurt you with their tests over and over again.
