There is a lot more Eugene Black history that people around here should know! Ferry Street Village is a good place to start.

Sadly there is a lot of history people forget when it comes to the KKK that definitely should not be forgotten about! Skinners butte used to be where they did cross burnings. And the area around ferry st bridge used to be a tent city. Racial discrimination forced many to live in unfathomable conditions. This history should be studied and talked about more so we can ensure not to repeat the mistakes of the past.

I grew up in the Eugene area. I remember seeing a cross on Skinnerโs Butte. They would light it up with Christmas lights during the holiday. I moved out of town. I wasnโt aware until just now that itโs no longer there. I wonder when it came down. Now hearing this, I am appalled. Itโs wrong anyway to have a religious symbol on a public park but now I find out this. It disgusts me.

I feel like not enough people know that the Grateful Dead helped save the Springfield Creamery (Nancyโs Yogurt) and then Nancyโs later helped save the Oregon Country Fair. Huey Lewis also used to help Nancyโs by distributing their product in the Bay Area. ๐ฅฐโ๐ผ๐ค Now they continue their cultural influence in Lane County through Kesey Enterprises and the creamery (among many other things!!!). The creamery has had three generations now running it.

As I heard it there is a very long history of Racism in the Eugene area. Do so e research into the tent cities tjat were here. The area was a haven for many from the south after they lost the civil war.
