Travel agent here. Not sure how your flights were booked but make sure the airlines know you are a family traveling together. Also make sure you check in for your flight. So many people don’t and not realize you showing up to check in that you will be the first to get bumped.

If cabin swaps were allowed freely, a family of 6 could get one first class ticket and the rest main cabin and then what, just all swap every 30 min so everyone can get the snack basket and free beverages, use the forward lav’s, and expect first class service for whichever member was currently in the first class seat? That would be an absurd expectation 👀 I’m confused about how this isn’t obvious. Ask for a partial refund for the downgrade if they haven’t already given it, which reading comments, it looks like it has likely already had been.

Put a claim in with the airline. This summer our plane got changed after booking so they didn’t have premium economy. We put in a claim and me got basically the difference from economy and premium economy back.

Happened to me on JetBlue, received full refund plus 1000$ in credits for two tickets each. And they didn’t charge us for the flight at all

Not defending the airline at all - definitely pursue for a refund. But I think you and hubby couldn’t sit in business because the kids would then be unaccompanied. Switching seats is normally within the same cabin only.

This is a cultural thing. In Japan, the manual is the standard. A cabin member who makes an exception isn’t considered helpful but is violating procedure. They are very inflexible. Happened to me in countless situations flights restaurants etc.

if you switched seats with your daughter, then there would have been 2 children without adult supervision in premium economy, and they dont want people coming back and forth as it is a disturbance to other passengers. you would probably have been allowed to switch seats with your husband.

No switching. They send emails to employees about this. Go to your seat. Live inside your cabin of service. I would recommend one parent and one child go to premium cabin and the husband and one child stay in coach together.

I recently had a similar experience on a flight to Hawaii. The husband was in business class across from me while the rest of his family was in economy. They spent the entire flight playing musical chairs, standing outside his pod having full-blown conversations while I was trying to sleep. The husband was also hammered. I paid for a quiet, comfortable flight, not a family reunion. 😂 I think they should have let you switch at the beginning, but the constant round robin is not okay!
