red sox have 6 outfielders and yoshida. need to cut back from those 7 to 5. i expect jones, white, and/or yoshida to be traded. i dont want to sell low with Duran. Only want to trade if we get a good player. better to let him play a half season and trade him if he gets hot. i cant see trading abreu, rafaela, or anthony. I could see jones being traded because hes limited defensively but at the same time he can absolutely crush lefties so thats a weapon i dont want to get rid of. we do have Contreras, Mead, and Romy who can crush lefties so it wouldnt be the end of the world if he was traded. I would say White is a good trade candidate. i like the defensively versitily and he thrives in away and day games at the dish. dissapointed by his speed not translating to a lot of stolen bases. its good to have to give Rafaela, Abreu, Anthony, and Duran days off. its hard for me to want to move from any of these outfielders accept Yoshida who is limited defensive and doesnt smash either side of the mound but did very well against lefties and righties last year and his injury i believe was a bigger part of why red sox struggled at the end of the season along with other injuries and just burnout from being a long season with tons of injuries. The Red Sox need to make moves but i dont want to see any lowballed moves by Breslow in trading Duran. Especially with uncertainty of Anthony but I also dont want to see a repeat of Anthony being injured and Duran struggling hard again but playing everyday next year. if he has a good offseason, he should just be on the roster and dangle him at the trade deadline if he does well and gets good offers. I know Breslow has to make moves or season ticket holders will check out. plus the roster is bloated with many indians few chiefs. Need another elite hitter if he can fit with the ballclub. We shall see.

Nope. The first trade proposal was like, what? Why is Atlanta doing that? Then trust Anthony to stay healthy and trade Jarren? He had a bad year that still looked better than what the stiffest outfielder ever looks like he will do!! That’s Anthony by the way! Brock Holt will have a better career than Anthony!

Payroll is not dropping at all actually. I would highly recommend following Red Sox Payroll on Twitter to see their spreadsheet of their year by year payroll breakdown. Their payroll is actually 268mill(same realm as last year) even without Gray if he leaves.

idk where you got $229M as the projected payroll. rn with all the projected arb spotrac has the team at ~$262M and sox payroll has em at ~$268M. as for trades ATL would be taking on more money to pickup a washed story and KC who is already owed a minimum of $50M over the next 6 seasons despite not having a position and only one hot month at the plate, doesnt make sense for them especially since they're short on starter depth for next season. duran is projected to be owed over $11M and even though SD has been interested in the past i dont think they'd be willing to do it, esp not for their #4 prospect (even acknowledging they have a weak farm). seiya is projected to make more than what you proposed, is a GG finalist in RF, is expected to be highly sought after so imo $105/4 doesnt work on several levels. plus this doesnt fix the OF log jam bc they'd still have anthony, rafaela, abreu, suzuki, yoshida, white, jones, and eaton for OF/DH (white, jones, and eaton are all out of minor lg options). bassitt is whatever, and imo nick sogard is just better nicky lopez
