Told my boomer mom to spend all her money. She’s traveling and enjoying what SHE worked for.

Like how my dad sold the only piece of property my grandparents ever fully owned. The same piece of property that he grew up on, that I grew up on. The same piece that I was told my WHOLE life would be mine one day it was in the terms of my dad inheriting the property. He went behind everyone’s back and changed the paperwork and took my name off. Then my grandma passes and my dad buys his first house in his late 40s a house he had to borrow money from his brother to buy, he decides to sell the property for cash. My poor grandfather had to buy it back…. I’ve never met a more selfish, greedy, and hypocritical group of people than my dad and step mom.

My dad made an Excel spreadsheet of every penny he has spent on me and has thrown it in my face my entire life.

exactly what my dad did when my grandfather died last year. I'll never own a home, but my dad has 3 and is selling 2 of them.

ah yes the critical first step, increase your income. if only they weren't actively stopping me from doing so by wrecking the economy.

boomers retiring on silent gen generational wealth has to be the smallest percentage of people in this conversation. as a genx managing three boomer’s finances we see boomers generational wealth is what’s the most fruitful right now. we can have this conversation, but let’s get the generations right first.

my boomer mom started working again because she wanted to, not because she needs to. she only works one day a week. she truly believes her generation works harder than mine.

I think this comment section defending boomers is missing the point. The point is that they inherited wealth and benefited from generational wealth, but they won’t turn around and do the same for the generations after them.

Boomers now spend on average 30+ years on Medicare and social security. They will exceed the amount they paid into it and probably exhaust the funds to a point that we will not see any of it

Millennials have always worked harder for less than boomers, they were handed everything and pulled up the ladder.

the "boomers" were not told or taught how to manage money or save, social security was all you needed(that's what they were told) now they're broke, I don't blame them

I'm that boomer. My parents partially planned but I don't think they ever counted on the massive cost increase of care. My 90 year old mother has dementia and her facility costs $7500k a month. I have to sell her home to pay the bills.

I’ve told my parents that I don’t care what they do with their money, as long as their long term care doesn’t come out of my retirement. My parents are divorced and I’m an only child. I’m not leveraging my future on their care, and they know it.

I want my parents to spend their money. They genuinely worked so hard for it. That being said, I wish they’d at least vote to set the future up right.

It’s their money. They can do with it whatever they want. I didn’t work for that property. My mothers just sold 65 acres of farm land to a farm preservation entity. I didn’t want that land. I didn’t want the taxes on that land. I didn’t work for that land.
