an open world spy game could be incredible if the systems and mechanics are right. imagine you have to be somewhere at a certain time to listen in on a conversation and if you don't make it, the story changes. if you keep failing, the game is like Johnny English but if you complete missions like a pro, it's like 007. maybe you can choose who you share information with, share it with the wrong person and you get considered a double agent so you have to learn who to trust and who to serve (like l.a noire mechanics). track people down without waypoints and mini maps to assassinate. so many possibilities!

which is why I'll say time and time again Rockstars potential is still great but they hold themselves back with their one major problem being that they simply CANNOT let go of open worlds for a while or simply are unable of making anything but open worlds (not to say they haven't with things like bully and manhunt but those were well over a decade ago and since GTA 4 haven't really done anything else)

It could be. They could make it in a developmental way in that world expands as the characters progress. Random missions that could lead to the main story one or the other. Even when story is done there are ‘spy things’ to do. Idk

i mean cyberpunk also has a clock ticking. but whats nice is that a lot if the side quests lead u to different endings. so everything leads u to the ending. i think thatd be a good angle for rockstar to take
