@heather_watts_therapy: Loving your adult child doesn’t mean you can’t have needs, expectations, or boundaries. But relationships can become strained when support starts to feel like a transaction: “After everything I’ve done for you…” or when financial help, time, advice, or access comes with an unspoken expectation of repayment. Adult children still need their parents. But they also need room to make their own choices, build their own families, and develop an adult relationship with you. If you recognize yourself in some of these signs, don’t shame yourself. Take it as an invitation to look at what might be happening underneath the hurt or disappointment.
