when i dm we live by both the rule of cool and the rule of "thats funny, thats cannon now" if one of my players wants to play as a dragonborn with a tail theyre getting a mother fucking tail, ill even give them the option to hit enemies or carry things with their tail if they want to

This is gonna sound bad but I am a DM who holds this standard. Dragonborn do not have tails at my table and if someone wishes to play a dragonborn with a tail, I will politely ask that they reconsider. So far, no one has had a problem with it.

Not a Dragonborn but in my second campaign ever I made a tiefling sorcerer and I gave them hooves instead of normal feet by complete accident because I assumed “Oh tieflings kind of are related to devils so they must have hooves or something” 😭

One of my Dragonborn characters is a Crystal Dragonborn so his tail is forked. It’s still only one tail but about the last third has two tips which can move independently from one another like fingers.

this reminds me of discussing a potential campaign, someone spent 20 minutes measuring exactly how tall their half dwarf character should be and made them like 6 feet tall. i suggested my gnome character was exactly 1 inch above the range listed in the book and the potential DM wouldn't allow it. but the 6 foot tall dwarf was fine.

I had a DM let me and a buddy be an Aaracocra and a Dragonborn with Fly because he knew we were both dumb enough that both having it together would be more of a hindrance to the party than a buff and over a 3 year campaign let me tell you he was absolutely right.
