There’s a creator here who I follow and LOVE, but they are queer and do a lot of jokey lavender marriage content that panders to straight women. It feels…. icky and I can’t quite put my finger on why. I just skip over those videos but like, it’s a thing that kept (and keeps!) people alive, it seems weird to make pandering content out of.

I know someone in an actual lavender marriage. they're both Indian and gay but their families are very much not accepting of that and both families were going to arrange marry them to others but they managed to get their approval to marry each other. They have been in the US for a while and cut off their family and are going to divorce soon

I’m an ex Mormon and lavender marriages are encouraged in the religion. I know several women who identify as queer but have chosen to marry men usually who have aged out of the singles ward, so men over 30 to continue to be in church. It makes me sad that they feel that they can’t love who they love.

My step dad is gay, my mom is straight. I come from an incredibly conservative Christian area of California. My mom couldn't find housing as a single mother and my step dad had been disowned by his family and struggled both socially and professionally. Their relationship solved a lot of problems for all of us. A few of my dad's friends were in similar marriages so I didn't realize there was anything special about it until I was an adult and started studying queer history. I genuinely assumed that most people must have at least one queer parent.

The OP is right, this should not be given attention. This is an arrangement of discretion, not something to draw attention with dating apps to facilitate them. This create records, they trace back. There is a reason some in the community are discussing this again.

THANK YOU for talking about this. I’ve found it so disgusting how people have reduced lavender marriages into a silly little thing when they were absolutely not that. I saw someone ask a straight couple if they were in a lavender marriage and then proceeded to tell me I needed to be more open minded when I said that was weird and unacceptable to ask. People didn’t want lavender marriages, it was that or their lives and people are still forced into them in certain countries, it’s not fun

OMG, I agree so much with what you’re saying and appreciate your perspective and I’m trying really hard not to be flippant, but this really turned over my giggle box that the only app with more women seeking men is straight women seeking gay men 💀 but if at least one of them isn’t called (fruit flies) or forbidden fruits or some such thing, I’m calling it homophobic.

Is there something more than the sites existing that makes you feel like it's a gimmick? If every other kind of dating and matchmaking is online, why wouldn’t this be? And isn't this potentially safer and more anonymous than trying to meet someone in real life who would be willing to enter into this kind of relationship with? The threat to LGBTQ people in different countries and even different parts of the US is still very real, so why is the assumption that this isn't legitimate?

I remember like 20 years ago seeing a story on TV about a man and a woman getting married to have a family together, both were gay. They had house next to each other and their children lived in both houses. It wasn't really a secret, their friends and families knew. I think about them sometimes and wonder what happened to them.

I've seen quite a few people on here talk openly about being in a lavender marriage and it equally annoys and saddens me. it's not really a lavender marriage if you go about telling everyone. it's supposed to protect one or both partners
