The pressure around the veins in the anus can increase, especially when someone: * Strains hard when passing stool * Has frequent constipation * Has chronic diarrhoea * Sits on the toilet for a long time * Does not eat enough fibre * Frequently lifts heavy objects * Is pregnant * Is getting older These factors can contribute to hemorrhoids. 🚨 Common signs Watch out for: 🔹 Bright-red blood after passing stool 🔹 Itching around the anus 🔹 Pain or discomfort 🔹 A lump around the anus 🔹 Swelling 🔹 A feeling that you have not completely emptied your bowel 🔹 Sometimes mucus around the anus or on toilet paper. 🥗 What can you do? The good news is that many cases improve with simple changes. Try to: ✅ Eat more fibre, vegetables, fruits, beans, whole grains and other fibre-rich foods. ✅ Drink adequate fluids, according to your individual health needs. ✅ Avoid straining when passing stool. ✅ Don't sit on the toilet for a long time scrolling through your phone. 😄 ✅ Don't ignore the urge to pass stool. ✅ A warm bath can help reduce discomfort. Fibre helps make stool softer and easier to pass, reducing the need to strain. 💊 What about treatment? Mild hemorrhoids can often be managed with diet and toilet-habit changes. Pharmacy treatments such as creams or suppositories may help with itching, pain and swelling. If symptoms persist or hemorrhoids are severe, doctors can use treatments such as rubber-band ligation, sclerotherapy, infrared treatment, or surgery in selected cases. ⚠️ PLEASE DON'T ASSUME EVERY BLOOD FROM THE ANUS IS PILES This is very important. Rectal bleeding can have other causes, including anal fissures, inflammatory bowel disease, polyps and bowel cancer.
