@enby_therapist: Here’s what I have to say about this conversation- also i’m so exhausted of continuing to debate the wives and legitimacy of trans people

Like at the end of the day its both a dick move to assign someone a label based of how YOU perceive them AND to try to police labels others use. If someone likes using agab language for themselves then fucking let them. But never use it for someone else, especially if you do not have permission beforehand

I'm an Agender Non-Binary person ADHD already makes what little maintenance I can manage to do for myself a chore everyday if I had to tack on grooming to appear androgynous and buying all new wardrobes to express deviation from my gender. I would go insane and have zero cash. I don't want to be perceived as a gender. I don't want anyone to look at me and think male, female or even necessarily androgynous. I just want to be myself in my own body without needing to stress over my appearance

Kind of like hey why don’t we just start ignoring our own predetermined ideas about what somebody else should be because being curious about who they actually are is more important but like nobody’s willing to do that

My gender identity isn’t a fucking costume I’m wearing for others. And that sort of shit is soo harmful to everyone, not just those of us that or NB but present as cis/male. It’s just so reductive and infuriating. (Ty for a thoughtful video)

I think it’s relevant if we are committed to social justice and equity because an acknowledgement of how things realistically work in the systems we are in is important. Examining our privileges is a key aspect of the leftist principles people are claiming to align with. It’s society’s fault but it’s our responsibility.

my partner and I are both non-binary but both appear to be CIS passing I get so tired of having to defend the validity of my relationship and the queer community because somehow we should both either look more masculine or more feminine

as a burly AMAB, there is nothing I can do to control my beard growing in without having some kind of operation done and that doesn't even touch my chest, back, stomach, or arm hair. that's money I don't have. that's a choice I haven't decided if I'm ready to make yk???but I do know I do not fit within the role of a traditional man. nor do I want to!!

I think this is a complex topic, and that the way non-binary and trans have become so interlinked to the point of being used interchangeably has done and will continue to do harm. The prevalence of ASAB due to partly non-binary people’s heavy usage of it has not just diluted nonbianarism but also incentivized degendering or even misgendering trans people. It has also led to a weaponization of ASAB to be more prevalent within the trans community, things like AMABs like me being ontologically rapey or AFABs being pathetic, or positive weaponization where individuals themselves (usually AFAB people due to society’s views of gender) will use that against usually AMABs. Speaking from experience of having multiple trans men harass me, send me rape threats, and even do petty shit like detrans my fursona to turn her into a rapist abusive older brother for their characters. Non-binary people, just like everyone else, don’t really owe people anything but by living in a society we do owe people clarity of experience and we owe people a chance to understand. Many reject the difficulties of that, and engage in hyper-individualists identity-focused behavior which I think does more harm than good broadly. Not to mention the fact that, as a consequence of the community kinda prioritizing validity, gender non-conformity, and non-binary presentations, this has led to a big push for demedicalization which would harm the poorest and most vulnerable trans people. All of this is really complicated, and I can very much tell that the wind is blowing in a way that doesn’t actually do vulnurable people any favors. After all, if identity is just freely chosen and is whatever you want, who needs HRT? That language is already used inside and outside the community, and I think a lot of people’s personal choices influence the strength of that language. Not that they are at fault, but it’s clear a lot of young people don’t know what these things mean and are inventing new meanings out of thin air without any mentorship.

I do agree with what you’re saying. I don’t think we need to know strangers ASAB. I think this whole conversation also got divorced from culture contexts because it got brought up from a place of fear really. Fear of men. At least that’s my take. Because like an AMAB Two Spirit person could identify as trans nonbinary as well, but presents relevant to their culture that most people are unaware of. They just assume based on what they see, which is as you point out, is a bad assumption.
