@upside_invest: America is downsizing Halloween, and the reason is the whole economy in miniature. Candy prices are up 44% in five years, double regular groceries. One price tag at a discount grocer tells the entire story. When shoppers cut fun-size Snickers, watch everything discretionary. $25 bag of candy is ludicrous. Pure absolute greed.

Check the ingredients. Even Hersheys is not using real chocolate/cacao.

Many people are doing snacks instead of candy. Bulk wholesale club boxes of individual treats, chips, pretzels and fruit snacks are popular this year.

Try over 100% over last year’s cost what was $17 last year is now $42 for a little bitty bag my family where we live don’t get trick or treaters anymore people prefer taking their kids to the mall ag center or their church events we will see 15 kids & 5 are nieces & nephews & 3 of the 15 are no food I think it’s just going to be stuff they can play with rather then candy

Not only groceries and gas prices are increasing, the residual sales tax further adds to the problem namely higher prices have higher sales tax costs. Furthermore, 3.7% inflation rate and 7.3% 30 yr fixed mortgage rates doesn't help either.

I paid $20 for one bag of candy today. It’s probably a good deal, but just felt wrong.

Switched to making and giving out cotton candy. Sooooo much cheaper and kids and teens love it. Candy, especially chocolate is outrageously priced. Bought Halloween rice crispy treat mini’s for my son for 10.98 back in September. Went to buy more yesterday it went up to 24.97. I passed on buying another box.

I bought one bag of chocolate because I know these kids are about to get the shaft this year but i can’t justify buying more than that.

This is the first year I’m actually giving out candy because my kids are old enough to not want to do Halloween. I bought a couple cheap bags from Dollar General not even bothering to buy chocolate, starburst and skittles it is. I’ll just turn out my light when I run out.

I wonder how profitable the candy companies are...maybe, instead of maintaining margins, they cut margins and cut C suite salaries
