I literally just downgraded a computer in my house to Windows 7 and have it completely disconnected from the Internet. anytime I need a driver for a program. I take a flash drive to my Internet computer and I get an old driver and add it. I’m so sick of subscriptions. I want to own things.

this IS a big deal. this is exactly what happened with video games 10-15 years ago. everyone ignored it because gaming isn’t important to society, but once corps saw they could get away with it, everyone eventually starts doing it

Adobe did this to me. PERMANENT license and 2 years later they told me nope, you no longer have a legacy license, you have to pay now 😭

But it is a big deal! If you got your kitchen remodeled in 2023 n then in 2026 without your consent, the contractor breaks into your house n outs locks on your cabinets and say if you want to access your cabinets you have to pay a monthly subscription for it. The contractor would be arrested for trespassing and destruction of property and have to pay for damages and restitution. But because it’s inside a computer somehow it’s glossed over but both are equally as damaging.

I hate how integrated programs like Microsoft and Adobe are when we've had over a decade of new, better, MORE SECURE products coming out and they're still seen as industry standard and you HAVE to use them.

I remember when word used to come standard for free with every pc. I hated when it turned into something you had to buy and hated it even more when it turned into a subscription service. Now they got rid of the permanent license that people have paid for?!? I am so sick of greedy corporations trying to squeeze every single penny from people.

we need to demand from "congress", (yeah, I know, good luck,) that these subscriptions forced upon consumers years after promised licenses purchased are not enforceable and must stop. it's near fraud. We should all complain to the Federal Trade Commission (“FTC”).

I know you said your editor requires you to use Microsoft Word, but I can almost guarantee you that Libre Office will work and it's all free and open source. It's entirely compatible with Office files.
