I still think Hinata’s father should’ve been the one that died instead of Neji. Neji should’ve taken Hinata’s place and tried to protect Naruto but Hinata’s father jumps in to protect Neji. That would be his way of “atonement” for the death of his brother.

He was out of Chakra and had no choice to either watch Hinata die or to fulfill his destiny and die as the shield that he was always meant to be. His father was killed so that Hinata's father could live. He was in the lower family and she was in the upper. The lower family is branded as the shield for the upper and his destiny was always to act as her shield even though he resented it. He hated it, never wanted that, deposed it and then later offered himself to it and died for Hinata. It was character development, well written and was indeed full circle. There is no, "there was no reason". There was plenty of reasons for it, it was setup from the beginning, from cocky and defiant, to being humbled by Naruto who was loved by Hinata, to being her shield so that she could live to be with Naruto. Perfect
