Leave the shirts on hangers - use a reusable zip tie to put all hangers together and then you can throw them on top of everything on in the front seat of the car!

I used to move my hanging clothes in college in trash bags. You make a hole at the bottom, that's now the top and you put the hangers through like a garment bag. The bags can then be thrown on top of everything or kinda rolled to fit in a box.
