Verizon support lied and said my phone was quite literally out for delivery. Then at the end of business day told me it was actually pushed back to mid Nov at the earliest. I’m not in a spot to switch carriers, but I can sure as hell decide where my money is spent. I cancelled my preorder and returned my accessories. I’ll buy the phone from Apple or Best Buy in a few months.

You neglected a key element: Apple is genius when it comes to “marketing by anticipation”. The phone was likely in development for 8+ years, there was no rush. If there was, they would’ve released it with the first Samsung fold. Who is “anticipating” the Samsung fold 10? Probably very few.
