This was my ex’s story almost to the tee. He confessed his mother wounds to me in the beginning but he tried to act like they had resolved all the issues from the past and like they were super close now. It felt fake sometimes on his end though. And then I never felt that he liked or loved me after a while. The more I tried to get closer and deeper, to make him feel seen, heard and safe. The worse it got over time. I would get accused of being an actress and told that I wasn’t sincere. He just kept finding reasons to be mean and passive aggressive and create distance anytime the slightest thing went wrong. I’ve learned that it’s almost impossible for these people to have a close relationship with anyone because the guard is always up. They seem to operate best by being performative and superficial so they can remain protected.
