@olesyaluraschi: Labor is getting cheaper and cheaper, and the last time this happened was the Industrial Revolution. The weaver's job didn't disappear. There were just fewer weavers, each running many looms, and the country got rich while workers' wages stayed flat for about fifty years (economists call it Engels' pause). This is what AI is doing to knowledge work. The marketing manager won't run one campaign. She'll run twelve. How will we react? 👇 #ai #layoffs #futureofwork #careeradvice #economics

Everybody loves to bring up the issue, which is now the elephant in the room. No one I mean, absolutely no one other than a couple people who think that we all need to have income from the government, which doesn’t really make sense, but nobody has come up with a solution.

majority of the work being automated is, as a famous economist once called it : BS labour. Unfortunately most of our economy in the knowledge economy is BS labour, including a chunk of the subset of jobs in engineering/science fields or STEM fields. Most of our economy ran off inter-dependent that created offshoots of exponential industries.

part of the solution to AI stealing our intellectual labor is to poison the well. feed the wrong info to the bots and AI will be trained on incorrect info and it will produce incorrect answers, and trust in AI answers will crash. plus, if other countries hold the Answer Engines liable for the AI answers, then we could stop the transfer of collective knowledge behind the paywall of a few knowledge work harvesters.

Question, did the product from weaving become cheaper as a result or did it just turn into 100% greed?

it's different now. we're building learning machines. they learn the same way as how people learn. so whatever people learn to do, machines will learn to do

Manual labor is not getting cheaper. I can assure you of that. Technology and Ai are not stacking bricks, framing houses, building roofs ect. Maybe Ai is effecting the jobs done by computer and that’s a great thing. Just don’t try to lump office jobs into the same category as blue collar labor.

Well someone needs to retain the details and knowledge in case AI glitches. Then we cannot trust only a handful of individuals with select knowledge

Right analogy. However, the workers need to pivot from being a weaver to someone who can fix the machines or build the machines to match the labor shortage in the new domain. Similarly right now those folks are getting paid who are integrating or building AI models into business work flows.

learn to plumb is the new learn to code, but I think they are creating a great enough range of movement in the new robot fingers that they will be able to plumb just as well as they can code.

As labor in factories produces more with machines, the price to consumers of the goods produced goes down. The workers are also consumers so their lives improve. This assumes that the factories have competition and are not monopolies

Sure, but often when the labor becomes cheaper it actually increases the demand for it overall. It's called Jevon's Paradox.
