Asked my mom to explain to me how to order a credit card so I didn’t order the wrong thing or mess it up. She responded with “just order it? Like what?” & when I pointed out the condescending tone she blamed it on my bi polar diagnosis by saying “are you sure that’s how I said it or is that how you heard it?” Both. The fuck?

A previous supervisor of mine would do this. I never felt like I did anything right, it lowered my self esteem extremely, and I felt incompetent every single day just wondering what I was going to do wrong and what she would get in my case about. Was constantly being belittled and undermined while being isolated from daily meetings and even conversations regarding me and what I was doing and being gaslit about lack of communication being my fault even when she admitted that she shouldn’t have to explain anything to me. It fucked me up so bad, to the point of depression and 💀 ideation. She was the first supervisor I had when finally stepping into my social work profession. Over an accumulation of incidents and unprofessional conversations, I HAD to seek therapy and mental health treatment over the impact it had on me. I eventually had to report her to HR because things had gotten so bad. I was an intern and she treated me like an assistant. We both have the same bachelor degree in social work and I actually got my Masters before her. It still affects me to this day.
